Chelsea’s official Champions League has been
announced and the headline news is that both
Bertrand Traore and Kenedy are in but
deadline day signing Papy Djilobodji is left
out, via UEFA.
With the transfer window now shut clubs have had
to submit their final squad lists for the group stage
and Chelsea’s did not include either of their
deadline day signings.
The arrivals of Djilobodji and Michael Hector took
everyone by surprise but the latter has been sent
straight back out on loan to Reading and the
former is not included.
If he is not in the Champions League squad it is
hard to see how he is going to get games aside
from in the two domestic cup competitions.
Elsewhere, both Kenedy and Traore earned their
places after impressing during pre-season and in
the case of the former, in the Premier League.
Kenedy was signed over the summer from
Brazilian side Fluminense and rather than going
out on loan he has come straight into the first-
team and made his debut during the 2-1 defeat to
Crystal Palace.
Traore was out on loan with Vitesse last season
and he enjoyed a very successful campaign with
Jose Mourinho praising during pre-season.
Last season, the Premier League champions were
knocked out in the first knockout stage and their
fans will be demanding an improvement.
